In this passage we read about a question raised by the disciples of John the Baptist and the disciples of Pharisees. They asked Jesus why his disciples are not fasting while they are fasting. Jesus answered  to them by saying that bridegroom friends can not fast as long as the bridegroom is with them.Here bridegroom is Jesus. His earthly life is a very special and very happy occasion for his disciples So they can not fast. But when Jesus is taken away from them they will fast. Here Jesus indirectly speaks about his death.After his death the dusciples of Jesus and Christians can fast.

 

Jesus gives the example of cloth and wine skin to say that his new teachings should not be mixed with the old teachings of Pharisees and John the Baptist. But the old and new teachings must be preserved seperately.
